Diane's Restaurant

Diane Barrett, of Diane's Restaurant, Silver City, is an ideal example of a welfare-to-work success story. She opened her bakery/café in 1996 with a $5,000 WESST corp microloan, expanded once with a SBA loan, and is ready to expand again with the purchase of her building!

Diane's Restaurant is known for its fresh, homemade cooking and top-notch breads. The Restaurant offers fine dining with beer and wine and also caters large events. In an effort to give back to the community, Diane's employs individuals who have been on welfare, those with disabilities and students.

Diane's Restaurant was listed in the New York Times Travel Section as "the place to eat in the Southwest", was included in Fudor's Travel Guide, and has been written up in several newspaper and magazine articles. In 2000, Diane was honored by New Mexico Woman Magazine with the Phoenix Award, and was also selected as PNM's Entrepreneur of the Year that same year.

Diane's accomplishments include being a mother, a first-rate chef and baker, a successful entrepreneur, and a compassionate mentor. Diane's Restaurant serves as a training ground for other future entrepreneurs. She is an advocate for helping others.
